I needed to get myself together. I’m quite shaken right now, but in a good way. Read if you want, comment if you want, or ignore it completely.

I’m so scared right now. I don’t know if everyone has a moment like this, where things click into place, and you know what you need to do, and you know what you are capable of, and it just terrifies you.

I love what I do, when it comes to art. I love the paintings that I produce, but I also know that I can be so much better. Like the space that I am inspired by, and hopeful about, I have so much potential. I just had a good talk with a fairly prominent artist and museum curator, and he made some really good points, and I do appreciate that he brought those to the table. I am rather terrified now.

There is a world out there that will look at every single stroke of the brush, and analyze it. Every single bit of paint that I put down onto a surface should have meaning behind it. I want it to, and I try, but I am settling for something that looks pretty.

I know how I should be working, and I’m taking the easy way out because I do not have the means to work the way that I want to.

For a while now, I’ve been paintings with no destination in mind, and while I still do not know if I will focus on having shows in galleries, and eventually have my paintings hanging in a museum, or doing this in addition to something else, but I know where I need to be going in this moment. I have a goal for this part of my life and I should put everything I have into the next painting, and each one after that. I should never settle for something that is second best.

The very first painting that started my current series of paintings, and the most recent one. I have three others in the process so it is only the newest in the sence that it is the most recent that is the most complete.

I’m awful at titles for paintings, but I tend to name my paintings after what I’m thinking about at the time I was making them, or what others start calling them or see in them. I woul dbe perfectly fine leaving them untitled, but that doesnt look very awesome on the tags beside the paintings.

As the semester comes to a close, it’s crunch time for me. Not only do I have two speeches to write (one of them must be complete by this evening ACK!) but we’re hanging the portfolio show. My art will be hung in the schools gallery along with nine other amazing artists. There will be a lot of 2D work as well as sculpture and ceramics.

In addition to having the portfolio show, the rest of the gallery space is being taken up by wonderful glass art.
